What about pomegranate juice?

Earlier I discussed my thoughts about pomegranates and pomegranate juice.  I received several complementary bottles of juice from POM Wonderful in the mail.  I was having a hectic week and not thinking very clearly, so I left it in my pile of mail to sort out over the weekend.  The box ended sitting on the floor a couple of days before I opened it up and put the juice in the refrigerator.  I sampled the juice and also bought another bottle from the store in case the flavor had degraded over worsened because of the days spent on my floor.  The shipping container did contain cooling packs, but these had lost their coolness a day or so before I opened the box.

I was first struck by the full flavor of the pomegranate juice.  This is partially because I don’t drink juice that much.  Think about the difference between drinking freshly squeezed orange juice versus drinking watered down orange juice from concentrate.  The flavor is just seems more full.  The flavor was actually a little stronger than I liked possibly because I normally drink more grainy drinks such as haymaker’s oat water or kvass.

The juice definitely tasted like pomegranates.  One improvement with the juice over the fruit is that you didn’t have to work your way through all of the white membrane inside the pomegranate and try to scoop out bunches of kernels.  You were able to get a more complete feeling of the flavor because you could take a mouthful and not have to crunch through all of the seed shells.

I enjoyed the juice although it is different from my normal (bland) fare.  I checked on their website and saw that the juice can be purchased from Marsh and Meijer which are located in my town (West Lafayette, IN).  I was not sure about Kroger because in West Lafayette, it is a different name-Payless.  There is a Target in Lafayette, but I do not know if it is a Super Target or not since I never shop there.  I did not find any of the PomWonderful at Payless, but I did get some from Marsh.  I found out that there are other flavors of pomegranate juice offered by Pom Wonderful.  These mix the juice with blueberry, cherry, or tangerine.

The quality of the juice I bought in the store was no different from the juice I had shipped to me.  I find that I enjoy the juice, but I prefer to drink it watered down so it is not so strong.
